Look below for what we are learning in class! You will find the current week on top!
October 17th- October 20th
Math- I can read, write, and count number 0-10.
In addition to reading, writing, and counting these numbers, I am working with students on different ways that they can show these numbers. They can do tallies, draw a picture of a certain number of objects, or use a 5 frame or a 10 frame. We want students to develop a good speed in counting sets of objects without just counting 1 by 1.
We are still working on counting from 1-100 everyday!
Reading- I can retell a story in sequential order.
This week we are learning about pumpkins! We are reading different pumpkin stories, both fiction and non-fiction, and discussing HOW a pumpkin grows. Ask your student about the word SEQUENCE!

Writing- I can tell about the parts of my writing notebook.
Students are learning so much in writing! They are learning about front covers, back covers, and how to turn the page 1 by 1. This may seem like an easy thing to do, but younger students really struggle with turning one page at a time, and not skipping any pages. At home, read a book to your child and show how the author doesn't skip any pages when he or she is writing.

Science- I can use my 5 senses to learn about the world around me.
We are using our 5 senses to explore PUMPKINS. In our science notebooks, we're going to be drawing what the pumpkins LOOK like. Then we are going to scoop out the pulp, separating the seeds from the pulp, to use our sense of touch. We will roast the seeds to explore our sense of taste. Later, we're going to do a nature walk to listen to the sounds of fall.

Don't worry! I will cut the pumpkins open!!!
